Tips for Creating Space

Have you ever heard someone say, “I just need my space right now”?
What did you make that mean about you?
You weren’t good enough? They deserved better? You’re not worth their time?
What if it had nothing to do with you?
Yeah, so cliche, but it typically doesn’t have anything to do with you! It usually is about the other person…
See, I’m an introvert, which means I re-energize when I have quiet time by myself rather than an extrovert, who typically re-energizes in social situations. I’ve been feeling like I need more space lately. It has nothing to do with you or the people around me…It really is about ME.
I’m realizing I have been going non-stop and my schedule has been full. There hasn’t been much space for me. Between moving, running two businesses, an intense coaching course, exercise, cooking, and time with my family, there are times when it can feel like too much.
Lately, I have been feeling a bit overwhelmed and cluttered in various areas of my life. This typically leads to fatigue and sugar cravings. I can also became anxious, irritable and unproductive.
Who does that help? No one. That’s when I realize it’s time to take a step back and see where I need space.
There’s no better time than NOW to create the space you so desperately desire. Below are a few of my favorite ways to make room for new, positive and loving experiences:
1. Material Clutter Do you have clutter piling up in your closet, car or on your desk? -Grab bags/boxes and 1. Donate 2. Sell 3. Trash 4. Recycle
2. Financial Clutter Are you clear on how much debt you have? Are your bills being paid on time? Are you aware of unnecessary expenses? -Try this budget form I give to some of my private clients.
3. Body Clutter Do you know body fat is another form of clutter? It’s waste that you’re holding on to, typically caused by stress and toxins. -Avoid more toxins in your body by consuming less sugar, alcohol and processed food. -Drink more water and eat more vegetables.
4. Find Quiet Time without Technology Even if you don’t meditate or do yoga, try to find at least 10 minutes during your day to not do anything. This will slow down stress hormones, which will relax your mind and body. -Put away your phone and try to be with just you for as long as possible.
5. Get Outside Being in nature is so refreshing, grounding, uplifting and beautiful. -Go for a walk, hike, bike-ride, beach stroll or anything that gets you out in the fresh air and sunshine.
6. Mind Clutter Our minds carry a lot of cluttering thoughts throughout each day, most of which are negative and draining. -When you wake up and before you go to bed, grab a journal and just write. Write whatever comes to mind, even if it doesn’t make sense. Write until your mind is clear. This will even help you to sleep better.
Are you also feeling cluttered and overwhelmed? Which of these tips would you be willing to try. Let me know!
